Nitroso compounds will be used as versatile radical precursors in various visible light mediated cascade reactions. A major focus will lie on the photochemical generation of C-radicals from alkyl nitroso compounds and their application in oxidative intermolecular addition reactions. These cascades are steered by the Persistent Radical Effect and the persistent NO radical mediates the transformations. Nucleophilic, amphiphilic as well as electrophilic C-radicals will be investigated applying this novel strategy. These photo-mediated reactions show high atom economy. Along with the photo-mediated radical generation, thermal variants will also be investigated and kinetics addressed. Photochemical Sigma-bond homolysis in nitroso derivatives will also be applied to the generation of heteroatom-centered radicals. This will significantly broaden the reaction space of the herein proposed strategy.
