High power and high repetition rate ultrashort pulsed lasers (>30W, MHz-pulse frequency) enable a unique interaction between the laser pulse and any kind of matter which is not achievable by any other technology. The use of these lasers allows the combination of the high spatial and temporal precision with superior process speed and throughput. By the choice of optimal process parameters and appropriate environmental conditions both processes with minimal thermal impact like precise microcutting and thermally activated processes for e.g. the conversion of ultrathin 2D materials can be realized by these laser systems. The new system is planned as a replacement for a defect laser system which has been successfully used over the past decade to develop numerous new phenomena and processes. Due to the variety of research approaches the new laser should also offer a maximum of parameter flexibility. Ideally, the main laser parameters (pulse energy, pulse repetition frequency, pulse duration) can be adjusted during the process according to the required type of interaction. In addition, the possibility to change the laser wavelength by frequency conversion and the offer for pulse burst mode represent further crucial options in order to expand the field of applications.
