Project Details
High resolution ESI mass spectrometer for high throughput accurate mass determination
Subject Area
Molecular Chemistry
Term
Funded in 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 503972641
Seven research groups, which deal with the development of synthetic methods in different areas of modern synthesis, participate in this application. Their studies lead to a large number of samples to be analyzed. The short-term determination of the mass is absolutely essential for the control and optimization of methods. Furthermore, the determination of the accurate masses of new compounds is meanwhile required for publication in high-ranking journals. The requested instrument will be installed in the central department for mass spectrometry in the Organic Chemistry Institute for the analysis and characterization of novel compounds. Instruments with electrospray ionization (ESI) and electron ionization (EI) are currently available for determination of accurate masses. One ESI mass spectrometer is out of order since 2/2020 and has not been repaired for reasons of cost. ESI accurate mass measurements are currently conducted on two instruments. One of them had to be procured from institute funds as an urgent replacement for the defective instrument as an inexpensive used instrument. Both instruments, however, are already more than 12 years old, so that a new, high-performance instrument is required for use in high throughput in order to cope with the high number of samples from the involved research groups. Further, the defect of another older LC-MS system in 2021 makes this replacement urgent, since LC-MS currently has to be carried out in addition to the routine analysis on the other heavily used ESI instruments.
