Transient 2D IR (infra-red) and EA (electronic absorption) spectrometer system

Subject Area Physical Chemistry
Chemical Solid State and Surface Research
Term Funded in 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 502466866

We apply for a transient 2D IR (infra-red) and EA (electronic absorption) spectrometer system consisting of a pump laser with two suitable OPAs, 2D EA spectrometer, 2D IR spectrometer, and the transient absorption add on. The instrument is key in various interdisciplinary and interfaculty initiatives within the university and with other academic cooperation partners. In addition to the already existing time-resolved 1D spectroscopies the proposed 2D spectroscopy setup can answer questions regarding how transitions between different electronic or vibrational states take place in more detail and provides both unique structural and kinetic information. In order to perform state of the art measurements, on one hand, and to keep our focus on the chemical experiments rather on developing and/or building our own spectrometer, on the other hand, we aim for well established commercially available spectrometer systems based on the pulse shaping technology. With the requested 2D spectrometer systems we could perform 2D spectroscopy throughout the complete visible range with the focus on the transitions between electronic states. Regarding the IR range we will be able to follow vibrational dynamics in the range 1000 – 3850 cm-1 (2600 – 10000 nm) which will be perfectly suited for the envisioned projects.
