Project Details
Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry System for Shotgun Proteomics and Immunoproteomics
Subject Area
Microbiology, Virology and Immunology
Term
Funded in 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 497694394
The proposed instrument is a high-resolution liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) system that combines various techniques to allow versatile applications. Primarily, the instrument will enable biochemistry and infection biology researchers at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo) Foundation to perform highly sensitive quantitative protein and glycan analyses of cell culture and tissue samples. In particular, infectiologists studying pathogen-host interactions and pharmacologists illuminating mechanisms of pathogenicity will benefit from the technology. Multiple applications include quantitative expression analysis of proteins following infection or pharmacological intervention, analysis of protein interactions/protein complexes during infection or neuronal disease, characterization of glycans in the context of infection, identification of epitopes presented by immune cells, analysis of post-translational modifications, and and top down analysis of neuropathological proteoforms. The instrument aqcuisition will establish a new, broadly accessible mass spectrometry core at TiHo Hannover and enable the Institute for Biochemistry to address protein and glycan analytical questions in infectious diseases using state-of-the-art technology.
