Streaming Series: Spatial Stories and the Production Regimes of Afronovelas (C06*)

This new subproject investigates the collective production of spatial stories of West African middle-classes, analyzed through TV entertainment programs referred to as “afronovelas”. These spatial stories will be examined in the context of their production regimes using both film analysis and relevant approaches in spatial and cultural sociology. The focus lies on how particular production regimes (re-)produce the logic of certain spatial figures and on the conflicts arising from this. As refiguring systems of order, production regimes offer important insights into the mediatization and decolonization of processes of spatial refiguration.
