Project Details
Urban Microclimate Planning Regimes: The Constitution of Spaces and Infrastructures of Heat (C05*)
Subject Area
Social and Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 290045248
This new subproject examines the current emergence of a microclimate regime in urban development contexts as part of a scheme to reduce the negative effects of urban heat islands. Using the examples of two pioneering cities in this context – Stuttgart in Germany, and Fukuoka in Japan – three conflict-prone moments of the regime forming process are identified: a) the problematization of urban heat; b) the infrastructuring of heat-resilient spaces, and c) the translocal circulation of novel instruments and approaches. The project will provide important insights into the impact of climate change and climate policies on the refiguration of urban spaces.
