The central idea of the project is to figure out the influence of tetrel atoms as ligands on the physicochemical properties of individual Fe atoms. The preparation of isolated FeSnn and FeSin (n = 1-20) clusters in the gas phase allows the intrinsic behaviour without environmental effects to be investigated. The clusters are studied size-selected with the help of molecular beam experiments in combination with a mass spectrometer. In addition to the geometric structure of these complexes, the influence of the tetrel ligand field on the optical, magnetic and redox properties is considered, in order to gain a fundamental understanding of the chemical bond between individual Fe centers and tetrel ligands.
