Counter Publics? The Socio-Political Placing of Intervening Arts in the Post-Ideological Age (1970-2010) (A05)
Subject Area
Modern and Contemporary History
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 451897170
What does artistic intervening mean in a post-ideological and post-heroical age after classical modernism? Do artists intervene in ‘the public’ or do they constitute (alternative, counter) publics on their own? The research project scrutinizes changing forms of action, self-reflectiveness, and discursive participation of intervening arts from a historiographical point of view. It focuses on the reasons why political interventions shifted to poetic and performative arts thus assuming a more intransitive character.
