Disentangling cosmic-ray signatures in AGN-starburst composites (A05)

The goal of this project is to determine the characteristic physical parameters in AGN starburst composite galaxies. By combining observation and theory, this project will quantitatively the level of importance of the starforming region versus the activve core in nearby galaxies such as NGC 4945 and NGC 1068. Special emphasis will be placed on considering fundamental results in plasma and particle physics to understand the acceleration of cosmic rays in the core of the AGN and the influence of prompt leptons on the secondary neutrino spectrum of such mergers. Both aspects are largely unexplored at present.
