Project Details
Cosmic-ray transport in the transition region from Galactic to extragalactic cosmic rays (A03)
Subject Area
Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 445052434
In the attempt to explain the energy spectrum of cosmic rays, it is currently unclear where the Galactic component ends and where the contribution of the extragalactic component begins. An additional component is needed for the transition region between the two. In this project, the question of whether the termination shock of our own Galaxy could provide this extra component will be evaluated. Finally, a combined model of how the observed particle fluxes can be explained with a combination of Galactic and extragalactic cosmic rays will be derived, in particular with respect to their spectral evolution, composition and anisotropy.
