The flux rate in cellular metabolic pathways generating energy often changes when immune cells transit from the quiescent to the activated stated. In recent years, evidence has accumulated that this change in cell metabolism is a prerequisite for the cell to mount an immune response. Project B05 will profile the metabolism of granulocytes as a major effector cell population in autoantibody-driven autoimmune diseases. It will develop therapeutic strategies for autoimmune diseases disrupting cell metabolism specifically in activated granulocyte populations.
