Plants employ surface-resident LRR receptor kinases (LRR-RKs) and LRR receptor proteins (LRR-RPs) to activate pattern-triggered immunity (PTI). Receptor-like cytoplasmic kinase PBL31 associated with LRR-RP-complexes, EDS1 PAD4 heterodimers and helper NLR (hNLR) of the ADR1-type form a signaling platform that is essential for LRR-RP-mediated PTI, but is only partially required for LRR-RK-mediated PTI activation. In this project, we will address the molecular basis of PBL31-mediated regulation of LRR-RP-induced PTI and whether LRR-RP-complexes and the EDS1 PAD4 ADR1 signaling platform are arranged in close physical proximity at the inner plasma membrane.
