The aim of the “Open Access Publication Funding” project is the sustainable promotion of open access publications at KIT. In addition to barrier-free availability, this includes science-friendly licensing, e.g. under CC BY or CC BY SA, which guarantees free reuse. In order to provide the necessary financial resources in the medium and long term, an information budget is being developed that records and links all costs for reading and publishing across all media types in the central and decentralized areas of KIT and makes them available for further processing. By presenting costs transparently and as completely as possible as well as merging project, publication and cost data, possible sources of funding for the information budget beyond traditional library budgets are also to be tapped. In order to achieve this goal, various policies on open science, publishing and affiliation will be revised or newly formulated on the initiative of the KIT Presidential Board. In the course of the project, the existing processes and instruments around the repository KITopen will be further developed at an operational level as part of a modular FIS and the Publication cost module (previously only APCs). An important field is and will remain consulting authors, especially with regard to licensing, affiliation, predictive publishing, funding acknowledgements and financial responsibility.
