Project Details
Bacterial effector-mediated interference with PGN-perception in plants (B07)
Subject Area
Plant Biochemistry and Biophysics
Term
from 2007 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 32152271
We are planning to elucidate mechanisms by which bacterial phytopathogens interfere with the recognition of PGN by the plant immune system. Part one aims at the identification of bacterial inhibitors for the Arabidopsis lysozyme LYS1. Moreover, we will address the question if specific structural features of the PGN of phytopathogenic bacteria (e.g. Pseudomonas syringae pv tomato, adapted to their host) differ from non-adapted bacteria (e.g. E. coli) to confer protection against LYS1 enzymatic activity. In part two of this project we envisage identifying bacterial components interfering with binding to and/or recognition of immunogenic PGN fragments via the PGN receptor proteins LYM1, LYM3 and CERK1.
