Project Details
Dynamics of Correlated Electrons at Quantum Phase Transitions
Subject Area
Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term
from 2007 to 2011
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 48554140
The aim of this project is to achieve a deeper understanding of the dynamics of correlated electrons close to quantum phase transitions. Investigations will be performed using two non-perturbative techniques, the flow equation method and Wilson's numerical renormalization group, partly within the framework of dynamical mean-field theory. One focus of the proposed research are magnetic quantum phase transitions in heavy-fermion systems, in particular the detailed calculation of the phase diagram and physical properties close to the phase boundaries. We will also study non-equilibrium effects close to quantum phase transitions, in particular the dielectric breakdown of Mott insulators and the emergence of long-range order after a quench.
