The theory of quantum phase transitions is mainly based on the concept of scaling anduniversality, i.e. on the concept that a single length and time scale diverges at the criticalpoint. However, in many experimentally relevant cases, multiple diverging time scales governthe physics. In this project we study theoretically quantum criticality with multiple scales ingeneral using the physics of phonons and structural phase transitions driven by criticalfluctuations as one example.
