Project C01 exploits the interaction between photoswitchable chromophores with propagating surface plasmons and localized particle plasmons in metal-polymer nanocomposites near the percolation threshold. Two different approaches will be pursued for developing novel switches that allow switching of electrical and optical properties by light. The first involves layered structures, where the metal-polymer nanocomposites are prepared by physical vapor deposition. The second approach is based on novel granular plasmonic nanostructures obtained by the newly developed Leidenfrost droplet synthesis and on molecular plasmonics controlled photoconductivity switching.
