In the third phase of the SFB, project B2 will focus on potential applications of high and medium manganese steels. For the use of such manganese-rich steels in industrial practice, it is necessary to develop guidelines for the design of lightweight components and structures. The available strengthening mechanisms have to be combined and exploited to tailor steels to specific applications, and it is necessary to predict the material behavior under forming and crash conditions as accurately as possible. The aim of the work in the third phase is to apply and improve material models to predict the forming and crash properties as precisely as possible and to systematically exploit the strengthening mechanisms in manganese-rich steels in specific applications. Thus, optimal forming characteristics with maximum degrees of deformation and minimal springback in sheet metal-forming shall be accomplished. In addition, the foundations for the development of crash-relevant lightweight structures with the highest possible specific energy absorption shall be developed.
