The HALO Geosciences User Group will equip the HALO airplane with geodetic-geophysical instrumentation in order to carry out geoscientific investigations. Within this proposal (GEOHALO project 1) we will focus on the Aegean gravity field and geoid as well as its interpretation in terms of mean dynamic topography and bathymetry. By using state-of-the-art equipment (gravimeters, laser altimeter, GNSS zenith antennas and receiver, and inertial navigation system), which exists already at the institutions forming the GEOHALO user group, a sophisticated gravity survey will be carried out during the GEOHALO mission. The data will then be used to compute the best-possible regional geoid model, to validate satellite models derived from CHAMP, GRACE, GOCE, and to derive additional products like the mean dynamic topography in the area and the ocean bottom bathymetry. Our results will also serve as input for the other GEOHALO projects.
