Site-Selective Growth and Characterization of Nanoscale Superconductors

The project targets the controlled growth of nanoscale superconductor materials based on a direct-writing process. The goal is to prepare the superconductors in a site-selective deposition process using focused particle beam induced deposition or its combination with templates for chemical vapor deposition. For this purpose, new precursors will be synthesized and tested for their specific use in the electron/ion-stimulated decomposition processes in order to enable the formation of superconducting materials combined with very accurate nanostructure control. The as-grown binary superconductors’ electronic transport properties will be investigated allowing an optimization of the precursor selection and deposition process. The targeted material synthesis will allow to realize specific geometries in planar nanostructures and also 3D configurations. An excellent control over the materials’ properties will allow us to study fundamental properties of the superconductors and heterostructures. At the same time, the high level of process control will allow us to demonstrate the particular advantages of the direct-write growth for potential applications in sensor devices.
