The strategy is to perform a series of sensitivity analyses, which are closely related to and - as far as possible - consistent with the CMIP6/AerChemMIP simulations. Each sensitivity analysis comprises a pair of time-slice simulations of at least 15 years, one with conditions of today (2010) and one with conditions to be expected in 2100 (i.e. based on a CMIP6/AerChemMIP scenario). The “today” and “future” simulations will be driven with monthly SST/SIC climatologies derived from the CMIP6/AerChemMIP historical and the scenario simulations, respectively. For each of these pairs, one key feature (e.g. a process realisation) in the model setup is varied systematically. From the differences between the “future” and the “today” time slice simulations, the corresponding radiative forcing will be calculated to provide a first estimate of model setup related uncertainties in radiative forcing.
