Project Details
Deriving transport timescales in the UTLS from age tracers and the propagation of the sea-sonal cycle of CO2 (C02)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 428312742
The project is divided into four workpackages. WP1 will focus on AirCore campaigns (bimonthly profile measurements for a period of 3 years). WP2 will focus on collecting data from other groups performing airborne and balloonborne meas-urements and on combining these with our observations to derive the best possible picture of the CO2 distribution in the tropopause region using well adapted coordinate systems. WP3 will compare our observations with model data from the Lagrangian CLaMS and the Eulerian EMAC model and also with Lagrangian reconstructions (Traczilla). In WP4, we will use the data from the Age of Air derived from the observations from the higher part of the balloon profiles to sudy seasonality in mean age and to incorporate this in long-term trend studies.
