Project Details
Large scale variations of water vapour and ice supersaturated regions (C01)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 428312742
Water vapour (H2O) in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS) is a key player for global radiation and sur-face climate. One process determining the UTLS H2O concentration is the large scale transport through the tropopause re-gion, that is directly controlled by ice-supersaturated regions (ISSRs) in which cirrus clouds are also embedded. The main goal of this project is to investigate the large scale structure of ISSRs and cirrus clouds from the tropical to the boreal and austral mid and high latitude tropopause regions as well as the related transport pathways of water vapour.
