Vertical transport of water, aerosol, and trace gases in extratropical cyclones and in particular the warm-conveyor belt (WCB) play an important role for the UTLS composition. How large this contribution is, how well it is represented in high-resolution models, and what therefore our predictive capability for future changes in the vertical transport is, will be ad-dressed in this project. We will employ large perturbed parameter ensembles in combination with the observational data obtained by other projects in the CRC to find constraints on the model representation of WCB moisture transport. In addi-tion, novel large ensembles will be developed that allow to explore the climatological WCB moisture transport in different climate states.
