We will address the impact of gravity waves and turbulence on transport through the UTLS, both by investigations of ideal-ised settings and by implementation and application of the lessons learned there from in MS-GWaM in ICON. The Brewer-Dobson circulation shall be analysed for gravity waves effects, where an improved description of non-orographic and non-convective gravity wave emission will be implemented into and applied within ICON/MS-GWaM. The ICON turbulence parametrisation will be adapted so that the corresponding mixing impact is reliable. This will feed into the parametrisation of the impact from breaking GWs on BDC and mixing. Simulation and measurement data will be provided for essential tests and validations.
