Project Details
Source apportionment of UTLS refractory aerosol and ice-nucleating particles (A06)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 428312742
For the analysis of the refractory UTLS particles, two new systems for airborne particle sampling will be constructed. The one system will consist of combined impactor, filter and thermophoretic sampling for assessing the general aerosol compo-sition, the other will be dedicated to the collection of ice-nucleating particles. Electron microscopy will be used to analyse all collected particles, yielding compositional and microphysical information suitable for source apportionment of the overall as well as the ice-nucleating particles. The aircraft field campaign will allow gaining insight into vertical transport processes associated with frontal convective uplift by using the source apportionment for associating the sources to the determined aerosol inventory in cooperation with the proposed modeling studies.
