Aerosol nucleation in the upper troposphere (A03)

Within this project we will provide measurements of the key nucleator gases as well as the concentration of nucleation mode particles to allow the characterisation of the nucleation processes in the UTLS region, specifically with respect to the role of the nucleating gases as well as the number concentration of the freshly formed particles. Measurements from the CAFE-EU and CAFE-BRAZIL missions will be analysed in depth to investigate the nucleation mechanism and the early growth processes. Additionally, accompanying model simulations will be performed with the regional aerosol-chemistry modelling system MECO(n).
