Project Details
3d Transition Metal Complexes for Photocatalysis: The Crucial Influence of Catalyst-Substrate Assembly on Reactivity (A04)
Subject Area
Inorganic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 444632635
This project uses catalyst-substrate preassembly as a guiding principle for the design of efficient photoredox catalysts based on cheap, earth-abundant 3d transition metals. It will permit the synthesis of active complexes that incorporate selective binding sites for particular reaction substrates. Detailed understanding of the elementary reactivity and preassembly processes of these complexes will be gained through spectroscopic and theoretical collaborations within the CRC. Specific applications in organic synthesis are targeted, where the specific reactivity and sustainability of the new catalysts will provide substantial advantages over established systems.
