Spin-valley polarized excitonic three-level system for quantum interference in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (B11*)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 314695032

Quantum interference phenomena in light-matter interaction promise novel functionalities in optoelectronic technologies, which is challenging to achieve with dilute atomic gasses or defects but conceivable with monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). The project will investigate atom-like and spin-valley polarized excitonic three-level systems in TMDC monolayers both experimentally and theoretically. We will map out the energies of the states of the systems, probe the quantum interference, study ultrafast excitonic transition dynamics, research potential applications in optical wave-mixing, and explore the tunability in strong magnetic fields.
