Project Details
Posthuman Dedifferentiation? The technological enhancement of Human Bodies (C06)
Subject Area
Empirical Social Research
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 442261292
The project examines attempts at self-optimization and -transcendence of human limits by technological means. This will be accomplished by analysing practices of experimental self-modification, artefacts with the purpose of expanding human capabilities, popular scientific discourse on transhumanism, and the presentation of enhanced humans in science fiction. The project aims to contribute to an ethnoanthropology of a society that, by optimizing its human material via technological means, is also redefining what it currently means to be human.
