Project Details
High power laser system for building a Compton-backscattering source at the S-DALINAC
Subject Area
Particles, Nuclei and Fields
Term
Funded in 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 463260563
The device applied for in the Major Research Instrumentation Programme will be used in conjunction with the superconducting Darmstadt electron linear accelerator S-DALINAC operated at the Institute for Nuclear Physics at TU Darmstadt as a source of quasi-monochromatic X-ray radiation based on the so-called laser-Compton backscattering. The aim is to advance the development of these sources in connection with linear accelerators with energy recovery and also to establish a possibility of non-destructive beam diagnostics at the S-DALINAC for accelerator research and development and for nuclear physics experiments. The development and use of this source is to be carried out mainly within the framework of three research collaborations - the LOEWE research cluster "Nuclear Photonics" funded by the Hessian Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and the Arts, the DFG-funded Research Training Group 2128 "AccelencE" and the Collaborative Research Center 1245 "Nuclei: From Fundamental Interactions to Structure and Stars", also funded by the DFG.
