The special 5-axis grinding machine system allows the implementation of kinematically demanding grinding operations and thus forms the basis for flexible processing of complex contours. Therefore, a wide range of forward-looking studies can be carried out on the adaptation of grinding processes for demanding components. Integrated equipment for preparing the grinding tools for use, extensive software solutions for programming and unique integrated sensor technology for analysing the grinding processes are also key features of the grinding machine system. This supports the achievement of a comprehensive understanding of the process and the development of process interactions. At the same time, the versatile application possibilities and the performance of the grinding machine system lead to an extension of already existing systems in the field of grinding technology at the TU Dortmund University. The benefit of the grinding machine system is directly demonstrated in the planned group of users, which also goes beyond the field of production engineering in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Especially the profile area "Materials, Production Technology and Logistics" of the TU Dortmund University would be strengthened by research using the grinding machine system. Both basic research and application-oriented projects are equally addressed by the flexibility. The machine system will therefore play a central role in research projects of various funding authorities, especially DFG, AiF or EU.
