The current and planned research content of the applicants includes the experimental characterization and numerical simulation of the cyclical material behavior of fiber composites and metals. In addition to the cyclic deformation and fatigue behavior in the Low-Cycle and High-Cylce-Area, the focus is also on the crack propagation behavior under cyclic loads. In these areas, the applicants are currently exposed to a deficient testing possibility and capacity. The servo-hydraulic universal testing machine applied for here is intended to expand the testing spectrum of the applicants and thus support the realisation of current and planned research projects. In addition to determining the characteristic values on laboratory samples, the cyclical deformation and fatigue behavior of components in the test setup should also be measurable. The current and planned research priorities in the field of fiber composites also concentrate on the material behavior under increased operating temperatures, which explains the expansion of the test system to include a climatic chamber for investigations under elevated temperatures. On the basis of the list of requirements, three possible test systems are compared in this application letter and then one test system is favored.
