Combining rotational and translational data with a novel adjoint inversion technique, this project aims to study the nature of the major structures in the mantle: the large-low-seismic-velocity-provinces (LLSVP’s) beneath the Pacific and Africa, ultra-low-velocity-zones (ULVZs) and the D'' layer by providing sharper and more intense images of the Earth’s lower mantle. This project also aims to develop theoretical and computational tools in order to jointly analyze rotational data obtained from ring laser sensors and from seismic arrays.
