Nalbant aims to unravel how spatio-temporal activity dynamics of cytoskeletal regulators and fundamental cell shape changes are controlled during cell state transitions in physiological and pathophysiological contexts. Because cell shape changes are driven by dynamic rearrange-ments of actin filaments that in turn are controlled by Rho GTPase signal networks, she will study the function of Rho activity dynamics and their complex regulation by guanine nucleotide exchange factors and how they are triggered and linked to the dramatic cell state transitions utilizing advanced live-cell microscopy and acute optogenetic modulation.
