Project Details
The role of IL24 in development and resolution of acute kidney injury (C05)
Subject Area
Nuclear Medicine, Radiotherapy, Radiobiology
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 431460824
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is characterised by impaired perfusion, a metabolic shift towards anaerobic glucose consumption and the secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators. We hypothesize that interleukin 24, which we recently identified in kidneys with AKI, is a key mediator in AKI. This leads us to investigate the influence of interleukin 24 on the functional, metabolic and cellular response of kidney cells and leukocytes during all stages of AKI. We will use a multiscale imaging approach with special emphasis on the development and application of novel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques, such as Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer (CEST) MRI.
