Project Details
Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscope 200 kV
Subject Area
Basic Research in Biology and Medicine
Term
Funded in 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 450084146
Research aims at understanding dynamic protein assemblies and machineries that use the energy of ATP to control complex cellular processes. Integrated structural biology plays an important role in our research approaches by visualizing molecular machines in different conformations. A screening cryo transmission electron microscope (TEM) 200kV is requested for current research projects and future activities. Due to the limited access to high-end microscope of this type, there is an urgent need for a cryo-TEM at the Goethe University Frankfurt. The instrument complements the ten-year-old Krios I with a 62.5% Uni share, which is mainly used for electron tomography. The Cryo-TEM is a device that meets the highest requirements in terms of resolution, efficient sample analysis, and universal user-friendliness. A corresponding cryo-EM infrastructure is available at the location, which ensures immediate and quick commissioning and also guarantees the working groups involved in the application process an efficient use and a wide range of users.
