Chronic inflammation in obese individuals plays a central role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). This project aims to delineate the factors that influence inflammatory and metabolic complications in individuals with obesity: 1) to understand whether CVD complications are determined by the immune characteristics of the individual; 2) describe the (epi)genetic factors that influence inflammation, and 3) investigate the metabolic pathways related to inflammation. To achieve these aims, we will perform a system biology approach that integrates immune parameters with genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic data in a cohort of 300 individuals with obesity.
