Project Details
Regulation of macrophage activation by the mannose receptor during metaflammation (P04)
Subject Area
Immunology
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 432325352
The Mannose Receptor (MR) is shed from the cell membrane of MR-expressing cells and released as a soluble protein into the extracellular space. In pilot experiments, we identified the soluble MR as a marker of obesity and demonstrated that it binds to the surface of macrophages, leading to their activation and functional reprogramming. Here, we aim to investigate the role of the MR on macrophage functionality and whole body metabolism in the context of metaflammation. We will analyse how the MR contributes to the onset of disease and investigate the therapeutic potential of MR inhibition.
