In the project "Adaptive pore network modelling and experiments of thermochemical processes in single porous particles" (Diéguez Alonso/Kharaghani), an in-house pore network model for drying and calcination will be extended in FP2 to more complex processes, namely biomass pyrolysis and char conversion under different heating modes relevant for the CRC/TRR (e.g., microwave heating). Furthermore, intraparticle gas species transport (including swelling and shrinkage) and anisotropic porous structures will be accounted for. A novel aspect will involve an advanced experimental approach that will enable the in-situ investigation of transport phenomena and chemistry. Optical diagnostics (laser-induced fluorescence, phosphor thermometry) will be applied to measure species concentrations around the particle and particle surface temperature. Pore network simulation results will be used to develop and refine the reduced single-particle models.
