In the project "Lattice Boltzmann simulations of reacting flows in small-scale static and moving beds of particles with complex shapes" (Thévenin/Varnik), the solver for Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) developed and made publicly available in the software package OpenPhase-Academic during FP1 will be further extended. In particular, temperature and concentration fields will be additionally computed within each particle. For this purpose, the project will compare a phase-field and an immersed-boundary formulation to describe the coupling between reacting gas flow and reacting particles. A model describing radiative heat transport will be included in the simulation in collaboration with another project. Validation campaigns will take place using experimental data. These simulations on the microscale will deliver reference data and reduced models.
