Mass selected Pt, Pd and Pt-Pd clusters/particles with a narrow size distribution in the range of 50-2000 atoms are deposited on different well defined substrates using a soft landing approach as well defined model systems for catalysis and tested in a specially designed reaction chamber. The structure of selected systems is characterized by in situ electron microscopy in defined gas atmospheres. Size distribution, shape, morphology, composition, atomic structure and substrate interaction as well as their evolution are determined under selected conditions relevant for emission control in order to correlate structure and catalytic activity.
