Project Details
Quantum clock interferometry (B09)
Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 274200144
The project investigates interferometry with spatially delocalised optical clock states. Using appropriate interferometer geometries identified by us, such measurements are sensitive to the general relativistic gravitational redshift. Since such quantum clock interferometers have not been demonstrated so far, this is one of DQ-mat’s most ambitious goals. With theory support by another project, we will experimentally realize the first quantum clock interferometer, and subsequently scale it up to meter-sized delocalizations in the Very Long Baseline Atom Interferometer facility. This will provide a novel experimental access for testing the gravitational redshift with quantum-mechanical objects, thus strengthening DQ-mat's quantum sensors for testing fundamental physics.
