Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer incl. high-performance liquid chromatography (LC-MS/MS)
Subject Area
Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine
Term
Funded in 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 445758203
The Institute of Soil Science (AG Amelung) has extensive and long-standing experience in the investigation of a) plant protection products, b) veterinary drugs, c) human drugs, d) perfluorinated surfactants and e) biomarkers. This experience covers different i) scales (sorption at surfaces, diffusion into aggregates, discharge from topsoil, distribution in the agroecosystem) and ii) regions (temperate latitudes, subtropics, tropics). A new addition project "Occurrence, adsorption and dissipation of mycotoxins in soils" started in this year. All these analyses are central components of several current and future research projects. A Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer (LC-MS/MS) is mandatory for all mentioned projects and target substances. The existing LC-MS/MS system was purchased in 2005 and is now more than 14 years old. Repair costs have been exceeding the economic efficiency for quite some time. Since the instrument can only be operated in LC-MS mode, a new acquisition is of highest urgency and priority for us. In addition, the inclusion of the "Molekularen Lebensmitteltechnologie " and the "Lebensmittelchemie" has enabled two excellently positioned working groups to be won over for joint use. This constellation makes the acquisition of a new LC-MS/MS system absolutely reasonable.
