Stricter legal requirements and the associated need for eco-friendly production have led to the increasing use of inorganic instead of organically bound foundry sands in light metal casting. However, the processes of gas generation in inorganic foundry sands have not been further investigated so far, which currently leads to problems regarding gas porosity in castings. In this project, therefore, the relationship between the material properties of inorganic foundry sands and the gas generation during casting will be examined. Initially, relevant characteristic values of inorganic foundry sands will be investigated experimentally and their influence on the gas generation will be determined. Subsequently, a metamodel will be developed on the basis of the data obtained, which can be used to simulate the gas generation in inorganic foundry sands. Finally, the results of the simulations are validated using measurements from equivalent casting experiments.
