This project investigates molecular and cellular mechanisms of atrial remodelling and arrhyth-mogenesis during atrial fibrillation (AF), the most prevalent type of arrhythmia in humans. Structural and electro¬physiological remodelling are essential hallmarks of AF, associated with pronounced and dynamic changes in the heterocellular nature of atrial myocardium. P03 will explore atrial cell type-specific gene regulation, mediated by the transcription factor ETV1, in vitro and in vivo, and project the links identified in murine models to genetics and pathophysiology of pig and human AF.
