This proposal focus on the synthesis of sandwich complexes of lanthanides with heteroatoms. For the ligands we aim progressively to go from carbon-rich to carbon-low heterocycles in order to study the influence of heteroatoms on the properties of the complexes. The focus lays on soft heteroatoms. In addition, the ring size (4-, 5-, 6- and 8-membered ring systems) as well as the charge of the ligands will be varied. Furthermore, the physical properties of the new complexes (luminescence and magnetism) will be investigated. As result of the numerous novel sandwich complexes synthesized in this project, there should be sufficient compounds available, e.g. to confirm or refute the common theories of magneto-structural relationships in the field of SMM sandwich complexes.
