Project Details
Shell evolution towards the neutron drip line (A08)
Subject Area
Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 279384907
In project A08, the evolution of shell structure with neutron to proton asymmetry is explored through spectroscopy via direct reactions. We will focus on the neutron-rich calcium isotopes where new shell closures have been evidenced at neutron number N=32 and N=34. Combined particle and gamma spectroscopy of 54Ca with the newly developed STRASSE array, as well as single-particle states in 51Ca and 53Ca via neutron transfer will be performed at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory in Japan. Complementary lifetime measurements in nuclei within the N=20 island of inversion will allow to further constrain the nature of intruder states.
