Project Details
Generalised deformation mechanism maps and interaction of dislocation defect phases with vacancies in Laves phases (A05)
Subject Area
Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 409476157
The aim of project A05 is to better understand dislocation defect phases in Laves phases, in particular the mechanisms and barriers for dislocation motion as a function of atomic radius ratio and the presence of point defects such as vacancies. For this purpose, a series of Laves phases with different radius ratios and increased vacancy density will be investigated. Methodologically, nanomechanical testing, electron microscopy and atomistic simulations will be used. Based on these results, we will develop phase-specific as well as generalised defect phase mechanism diagrams.
